The 56th Grammy Awards Preview

Award Show Post #2…Here We Gooooooooooo.

Tuning into E! at 5 pm, I see the same crew ~~ Giuliani Rancic, Kelly Osbourne and those guys (don’t care). G looks perfect, as usual, but the very YOUNG Kelly with her purple pageboy is wearing an old lady gown. Why?

I will admit that at my recently-advanced-again age, I may not be the best reporter of all that is NEW in the music department as I don’t even know all the new artists (and again, don’t care) but I’ll do my best, so as not to disappoint my readers (aka Mike Strobel).

I SO wish I could blog LIVE and you guys could talk to me…sigh. The 6 pm show has now started with the indomitable Ryan Seacrest and G Rancic is in a different dress, which hopefully means that Kelly is, too. But can I just say now and forever that the ManiCam is stupid, stupid, stupid and I will hate every “finger-walk” they take down that little red carpet.

First girl up looks so pretty in pink, she’s with her mom…she is (waiting)…ack! Don’t know. Oh well, she’s nominated for something so maybe I’ll learn later. But in the meantime, NOOOOOO Kelly: same dress. What would Joan say?

Meanwhile, Sarah Hyland musta read my review of her Golden Globes’ look because she looks way better tonight:

grammy 1

********I just found a “Who will win/who should win” from USA today…whattya think?******

The Blessed Unrest, Sara Bareilles

Random Access Memories, Daft Punk

good kid, m.A.A.d city, Kendrick Lamar

The Heist, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Red, Taylor Swift

Will win:The Heist

Should win: Random Access Memories

Heist pulled off a grand theft of charts and airwaves, but Random Access Memories’ grand amalgam of influences and ingenuity beat it artistically.

Admitting that I haven’t listened to any, let’s move on to:

Get Lucky, Daft Punk & Pharrell Williams

Radioactive, Imagine Dragons

Royals, Lorde

Locked Out of Heaven, Bruno Mars

Blurred Lines, Robin Thicke featuring T.I. & Pharrell Williams

Will/should win: Royals

Lorde’s smart, subversive, spare pop trumps the rest, though Lucky could get lucky.

SONG (goes to writer)

Just Give Me a Reason (performed by Pink featuring Nate Ruess)

Locked Out of Heaven (Bruno Mars)

Roar (Katy Perry)

Royals (Lorde)

Same Love (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert)

Will win: Royals

Should win: Just Give Me a Reason

All are worthy, but Reason has every ingredient that makes a pop classic.

Okay, so I haven’t listened to any of the albums, but I can say that I LOVE Blurred Lines and Just Give Me A Reason, so I hope they win. I also heard a young woman sing on The View the other day and she was insanely fantastic and if she shows up tonight I’ll let you know if she’s somebody on the list in which case, she should win, too.

Yeah, I’m better at the Emmys.

Moving on:

James Blake

Kendrick Lamar

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Kacey Musgraves

Ed Sheeran

Will/should win: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Nobody had a more explosive rise than this rap duo;

still, Lorde’s absence is a puzzler.

Paradise, Lana Del Rey

Pure Heroine, Lorde

Unorthodox Jukebox, Bruno Mars

Blurred Lines, Robin Thicke

The 20/20 Experience, Justin Timberlake

Will win:20/20

Should win: Pure Heroine

Lorde altered pop’s playing field with a fresh vision.

Again, I know so few of these I leave it to the experts.

Back to the pre-show…

Hunter Hayes? How old is he, 12? He’s stuttering he’s so nervous; or maybe he stutters, wouldn’t know. He’s going to premier a new song on the show, which is risky but hey, he’s country so…whatever. I’ll probably get up for a snack 😉

Brave, Sara Bareilles

Royals, Lorde

When I Was Your Man, Bruno Mars

Roar, Katy Perry

Mirrors, Justin Timberlake

Will/should win: Royals

In a rich talent pool, Royals rules, but Mirrors could steal this one.

I really like Roar, but the vocals are held more by her backup singers than by Perry, so I’m gonna go with Bruno, unless that awesome vocalist I saw on tv turns out to be Sara, then I’m going with her, even thought IDK the song. (Is anybody still reading?? hahahaha). This is Sara Bareilles and I may love her:

Ringo Starr is slated to perform with Paul McCartney who really does not sing well anymore and Ringo, well, ya know. Still, I’m really looking forward to it b/c I am of a certain age and The Beatles are the BEST EVER and will NEVER be beat no matter how really, really old they get.

Oh, and here’s Jared Leto, he of the Grammys AND the Golden Globes. And, of course, of the very handsome and the “Looks Like Jesus.”

g3Yeah, IDK the guy on the left and of course I don’t wanna talk about the girl in purple and I kinda recognize the other one, but this pic of Jared was taken 4 hours ago, and I like to be current 😉

AAAAAAAAAAnd, I’m bored. I must admit I’m more of an Oscar/GG/Emmy/TONY girl, but I think the show’ll be good so I’m gonna go watch it.

  1. I’ve stopped watching the Grammy Awards a long time ago. If I want to watch soft porn, you have HBO. Most of the winners are entertainers, not artists. I prefer to watch individuals that write their own music, play their own instruments, and sing their own songs. Very few of those around.

So, Whattya think?
